I consider myself very lucky for being associated with the National Institute Of Traumatology & Orthopaedic Rehabilitation. It is a prestigious organization. This prime organization was born in 1972 with the blessings of father of nation Bangabandhu Sheik Majibur Rahman & by a saint like philanthropist Dr. R. J. Garst.
Since its inception the organization dedicated itself for the care of freedom fighter and general population of the country and soon became the center of excellence in the care of orthopaedic and trauma patients. It is 500 beded specialized tertiary hospital, one of the largest of this kind in this region. Under one roof we have highest number of reputed and skill doctors, nurses and paramedics to care ever increasing number of patients. We take the pride of successfully handling several mass casualties in the past.
NITOR is also pioneer in the field of higher education in the field of medicine in Bangladesh. We introduced MS & Diploma in orthopaedics under Dhaka university with residency programme. Started graduation programmed in physiotherapy and training programme for the nurses and paramedics. Every year we enroll 30 students in MS, 15 students in D.Ortho and 30 students in Bsc. in physiotherapy courses. These students go through a very well structured academic calendar to become a leader in their fields. This has contributed producing a large number of orthopedic surgeons, physiotherapists and orthopaedic nurses in the country. This has also helped the ministry of health in extending the orthopedic & trauma care upto Upazila level.
At NITOR we also provide specialized orthopaedic care through specialized units in the field of Arthroplasty, Arthroscopy, Hand surgery, Spine surgery, Paediartric sugery & Dreformilt correction. We also run a SIGN programme , where implants are provided free supported by SIGN Foundation, USA.
